Model making in architecture is a fundamental tool that bridges ideas, design development, and communication. It’s both a design process and a presentation tool, helping architects visualize and test concepts in three dimensions.
Purpose of Model Making can be viewed as follows;
Traditional techniques using paper, cardboard, foam, or wood. Excellent for tactile understanding and quick iterations. Model makıng by using traditional methods enhances spatial thinking and creativity whıle it allows quick intepration and experimentation. Strengthens collaboration, as models can be shared and discussed easily. Improves presentation quality, helping clients and stakeholders understand and support the design.
Model making isn’t just about the final product, it’s an active design tool. It reflects the process of thinking in three dimensions, where mistakes or discoveries inform the next stage of design. The scale, material and level of detail communicate both intent and narrative of the project.
Testing architectural model-making materials is an essential step ın our practice to ensure our models are durable, accurate, and visually effective. Different materials behave differently depending on scale, purpose and techniques. We test materials for their structural integrity to check if the material can hold weight or maintain shape, especially for large models. For its workability to assess how easy it is to cut, glue, sand, or shape. for its aesthetic quality to establish how it represents textures, colors, and finishes. For its scale accuracy to ensure the material can represent details appropriately for the model scale. And lastly for its durability to test resistance to warping, breaking, or fading.
At Hassa all our models are planned, created, or structured with close attention to detail, precision, and purpose. It implies that thought, care, and intention went into the design process to ensure quality, functionality, or beauty.
